Week 5 Run 1 | Couch to 5K Program

Here’s a major turn up for the books, I’m out running on my own at Henley Lake. Last weeks pounding of the pavement in the dark is enough to spur me on to do it alone so I don’t have to run in the dark on the highway.

It’s a beautiful morning and I’m cursing the older people with their mini dogs hanging out in groups, like teenagers outside of a dairy. I have to run around these people adding extra effort to my run.

I start out strong with a good walking pace in the warm up then comes the run. I keep a good pace and enjoy the music and the scenery around the forest area of the lake.

At the end or run 2 someone recognises me from Talent Wairarapa (a project I’ve been involved in for the last few months) and stops me to congratulate me on a great event. I’m conscious of time and pass the time but say, I must get going now. Sorry whoever you are, I really am pleased you enjoyed Talent Wairarapa. I told her it was much more of a challenge to be doing this.

The third run went fast and I started to enjoy it. I felt less distracted on my own. I feel really conscious that Pete doesn’t need this and can run much faster than me, I think sometimes that can be a little off putting but I do love him for supporting me this far, because if it wasn’t for him, Allan and Nga and all the folks at CrossFit Manaia I’d still be sat on the couch getting gradully more and more unfit and feeling extremely sorry for myself.
