Week 4 Run 2| Couch to 5K Program

After a 7 month hiatus, there’s a welcome return to the Couch to 5k program. First Pete pulls a calf muscle which puts him out and just as he recovers I do something to my knee. So there’s been no running for a wee while.

This month saw us take up a lifestyle challenge with the box, we’ve been tracking macros, tracking sleep and hydration, doing ROMwod and also other things like meditation and exercise. Pete and I have given up alcohol for the 8 weeks duration of this challenge which includes Dry July

The prompt for getting back into the program was running at the CrossFit lite class with CrossFit Manaia.  After only days of doing this challenge, I realised my breathing was better.  We did a real hard workout which involved 400m runs. I was (compared to my usual efforts) caning the 400m runs. Coaches Allan and Nga had refused to scale me on this occasion so I just bit the bullet and did it. It felt good…

So Pete and I decided on Sunday to recommence the program. I did say to Pete I wanted to go back to week 3 run 1 and gradually make my way up to it but the app had other ideas and started itself at week 4 run 2. I realised half way through the run that we were going longer than expected and I thought, well hey, let’s see if I can do this sh*t. Well I did and my breathing is so much more stable. What I am finding though is my legs are getting tired before I can’t breathe now. In the past it has been the breathing or lack of being able to get it under control, that has been my nemesis.

My pace was good compared to last time – in November. It was a pleasant run around Henley Lake, taking in the woodland area and I’m finding I just might be getting a taste for it.

Yay for our return.
