OMG I did this, I’d been worrying so much about doing this run. I didn’t feel ready to run for a whole 5 minutes without stopping. On the way to the lake I couldn’t decide whether to do the last run again or to move on. I was dithering. Because I’d upped the pace last time it gave me some confidence to move on. I remembered what Nga said in the gym, don’t get WOD regret, I think I would have if I’d have repeated it, so I moved on.
William, our son came with us, he’s a bit distracting as he hangs back and then powers past real fast (bah those youngsters with their big strides). However I started running and the 3 minute run felt like last week’s 1.5 minute run. The recovery time on this was only 1.5 minutes, so it was quickly around to the 5 minute run. I felt it at 3 minutes but then I got into the zone and started looking around, listening to Queen and enjoying the pace, getting into a rhythm. Then I realised – I did it. Pete asked me how I felt and I said not too bad.
The three minute break was welcome and then straight back into the 3 minute jog, I started trying to get back into the zone, I felt like it would have been better if I hadn’t stopped and started again. Through the 3 minutes and onto the break of 1.5 minutes. The final 5 minutes were a killer, I got to 2 minutes 30 and I felt spent, but then I started to do the CrossFit thing, I can do this, I can finish it, I can bring it in and do you know what, I did. It made me feel so amazing. I ran for 16 minutes today, admittedly with the walking breaks between, but I did it. I just might nail this 5K malarkey.
As I finished Freddie Mercury was singing these words, which seemed really appropriate.
You can be anything you want to be
Just turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be
Be free with your tempo, be free be free
Surrender your ego – be free, be free to yourself
